Our next event will be a concert by Shahnai Band, with Iranian Folk Music live at The Nomads Tent from 6.30 to 8.30 on the 15th of March.

Their last concert in our gallery was a sell out!

Iranian folk music is a rich tapestry of sounds and stories, reflecting the diverse cultural heritage of Iran's various regions. This traditional music is not just an art form but a living history, passed down through generations, capturing the spirit and traditions of the Iranian people. The Shahnai Band's performance in Edinburgh at The Nomads Tent is particularly special as it is just a few days before the Iranian New Year. Nowrooz, which means "new day," is a time of renewal and celebration, marking the arrival of spring. It is a festival that symbolizes new beginnings, joy, and the triumph of light over darkness. We invite you to join us in celebrating Nowrooz through the enchanting sounds of Iranian folk music, and to experience the warmth and richness of our cultural heritage.

Interview with the Shahnai Band: Bringing Iranian Folk Music to the UK

**Q: Can you tell us a bit about your band and its members?**

**Amir Behmanesh:** We are a group of Iranian musicians based in the UK, passionate about sharing the rich and diverse folk music of Iran. Our band includes myself, Amir Behmanesh, as the singer; Ali Rahmani on percussion; Saeed Rezazadeh playing the Tar and Setar; and Rouzbeh Parsa on the Kamancheh. Each of us brings a unique element to our music, drawing from the traditional sounds of various regions in Iran, such as Khorasan, Lorestan, Kurdistan, Azarbaijan, and Gilan.

**Q: What inspired you to form this band and tour the UK?**

**Ali Rahmani:** Our main inspiration is to introduce the beauty and depth of Iranian folk music to a wider audience. We believe that music is a universal language that can bridge cultural gaps and bring people together. Touring the UK gives us the opportunity to share our heritage and connect with people who may not be familiar with Iranian music. We hope to inspire curiosity and appreciation for our music and culture, and we look forward to engaging with the audience and sharing the stories behind our songs.

**Q: You have a performance coming up in Edinburgh at The Nomads Tent. Can you tell us more about this event?**

**Saeed Rezazadeh:** Yes, we are very excited about our upcoming performance at The Nomads Tent in Edinburgh. This venue is unique as it is a Persian rug shop, which adds a special ambience to our concert. The date of our performance is a few days before Nowrooz, the Persian New Year, making it a perfect occasion to celebrate and share our culture through music.

**Q: What can the audience expect from your performance?**

**Rouzbeh Parsa:** Our audience can expect an immersive experience of Iranian folk music. We will be performing lively traditional pieces from different regions of Iran, each with its own distinct style and flavor. From the soulful melodies of Khorasan to the vibrant rhythms of Lorestan, the intricate tunes of Kurdistan, the lively beats of Azarbaijan, and melodies of Gilan, each piece of music carries the essence of its origin. We aim to create a journey through the diverse musical landscapes of Iran, offering a glimpse into our rich cultural heritage.
