The Persian Carpet Man: an illustrated talk by Mark Flinn

We are delighted to host an illustrated talk by Mark Flinn 'The Persian Carpet Man: Leonard Flinn and Ziegler's carpet business in Iran' at 6pm on Wednesday 27th April at The Nomads Tent.

The talk is based on the diaries and letters of Mark's grandfather, Leonard Flinn, who worked for Ziegler & Co, and made six extended visits to Iran between 1903 and 1943.

The Persian Carpet Man, Leonard Flinn (‘Tajir’), made several extended trips to Iran between 1903 and 1943 in connection with his employment with Ziegler & Co., the successful Manchester-based company which commissioned carpets made in remote Iranian towns and villages for export to Europe and the USA. The talk draws on Tajir’s letters, diaries and photographs, and offers an insight into everyday life, commerce and travel in Iran in the first half of the last century, alongside the development of the Ziegler business.
