ENAMEL JEWELLERY WORKSHOP with Jessica Howarth Thursday 18th of August, 12.30 - 4.30pm

Create your own unique piece of jewellery as you learn the art of enamelling in this special pomegranate themed jewellery workshop with artist and designer, Jessica Howarth.  

Taking inspiration from the shape, colours and textures of the pomegranate, you will apply a rich palette of colours in the form of fusing vitreous enamel with silver foil onto metal shapes to create a highly individual jewellery piece to take home.

Biography:

Jessica is an artist jeweller based in Edinburgh. After graduating with a 1st Class Hons in Jewellery & Metal Design from Duncan of Jordanstone College of Art & Design in 2011, she then went on to establish her creative practice.

Jessica regularly exhibits and has received several awards, including the  Visual Artists and Craft Makers Award from Edinburgh City Council and Creative Scotland 2017, the 2018 ITAC  International Teaching Artist travel bursary to New York City and most recently secured joint funding between herself and fellow jeweller Lisa Arnott from Creative Scotland’s Open Fund to enable the delivery of year-long socially engaged jewellery project Flourish in partnership with Womanzone and North Edinburgh Arts.

Specialising in enameling, allows Jessica to experiment with colour and pattern within a jewellery making context. Combining previous training in textiles and floristry, surface design and colour has always been an integral aspect of Jessica’s process. These creative influences are reflected within her pieces.

Jessica is a member of Applied Arts Scotland, The Association of Contemporary Jewellers and The British Society of Enamellers.

Out-with  her studio practice Jessica teaches this discipline to a wide range of people from total beginners to the more advanced maker. Alongside evening and day classes, Jessica teaches on the Foundation Course in Jewellery and Metal Work at Silverhub Studios in Edinburgh.

Jessica believes the process of making can provide a transformative experience for a person, this led her to undertake a Masters in Adult Education, Community Development and Youth Work at the University of Glasgow from which she gained a distinction and a professional qualification by the Community Learning and Development Standards Council in Scotland.

Combining her artistic practice and training in the field of education, Jessica now leads and facilitates creative learning sessions for various community, educational and health care services including North Edinburgh Arts, Art in Heathcare, Edinburgh Napier University  and The University of Dundee. Jessica was recently commissioned by Forces Children Scotland to deliver creative workshops for young carers.
