An authentic, complete, original goat's hair black tent.
It comes complete with the main woven goat's hair centre section and two 8m x 1.4m goat's hair side sections, 2 full size reed screens around 8m x 1.4m, hardwood spikes for 'stitching' the assembly together, braided camel and goats hair guy ropes, around 2 dozen willow poles. There is not an atom of synthetic or manufactured material in the whole assembly.
Goats hair is a well tested material for nomadic living since ancient times. Though not resistant to a major Scottish downpour, with the addition of a temporary tarpaulin top cover which can be thrown over when needed, it provides a spectacular and elegant dry covered space. Goats hair is secure against wind and cool in hot sun. The whole tent can be assembled in an hour or two by 2 people.
Our example can be set up at 6 x 3 metres and extended for some applications by around 1 metre all round by elevating the side panels. The poles support the roof at 2.1 m high and are spaced around 1.5 metres apart throughout though some poles can be placed as 'beams' to make more open space.
The tent was acquired in 2011 directly from source. It was made for and used by a group of Qashqai of SW Iran. At The Nomads Tent it adorned various exhibitions and was rented out for weddings and shows around the country including the conference by Beyond Borders at Traquair House in the Scottish Borders.
Images show the tent inside our shop and an almost identical example pitched in the Anatolian countryside. Overall weight is about 300kg, carriable on two horses or one camel (not supplied). Delivery can be arranged at a cost to most UK mainland destinations. Highlands and Islands etc, are extra. The tent can be inspected by appointment only, unassembled but opened in sections as needed.
WHERE WE DELIVER TO
- We use various carriers to deliver our goods within the UK and abroad.
- Some carriers quote a premium for certain postcodes. If this is the case, we may absorb that extra or we may add it to your order. You can accept it and pay or reject it and we will refund your order. Overseas delivery often requires more complex paper work and we may charge for this. Please ask for a quotation.
WHERE WE DELIVER FROM
- Our stock is stored in our Edinburgh warehouse. All goods purchased from our website are shipped direct from either of these premises to you.
DELIVERY TIMES
- Almost all on-line orders are delivered within a week, many within 2 or 3 working days (we are closed on Mondays).
- Bulky items may take longer. We are normally able to share tracking numbers or advise likely delivery dates but we don't operate a guaranteed service
DELIVERY COSTS
- We have 4 basic UK shipping rates: small items £3.95, standard £8.95, Large £25 and X Large £35.
IS A SIGNATURE REQUIRED
- Since Covid19 most shippers do not want signatures, being happy instead with your stated name and sometimes just taking a photograph of the item on your door step.
NON DELIVERY
- If your order doesn't arrive in reasonable time (see above 'How long delivery takes') you must contact us immediately and certainly no later than 10 days after you placed your order.
RETURNS INFORMATION
We want customers to love what they buy. You may return any item that is not what you want or if it is faulty or not what you ordered. Please read the following carefully.
- Goods for return should be sent to The Nomads Tent, 2 Warrender Park Road, Edinburgh EH9 1JQ, UK. 0044 131 662 1612, info@nomadstent.co.uk.
- If you wish to return an item that is faulty or not what was ordered we will refund the full cost plus any agreed shipping costs. But you must notify us by phone, email or website message within 3 days of the delivery date. Any exception to this time limit will be at our discretion. We will make a full refund including agreed shipping costs when the item is received back at our warehouse*.
- If an item is returned for any reason other than being faulty or not what was ordered, we will deduct the cost of the outward shipping from the refund.
- You must ensure we receive returned items within 14 days of the delivery date unless we agree more time. You will be responsible for safely packaging the item for return. We will make the appropriate refund, less shipping costs, when the item is received into our warehouse in the same condition it was in when you received it.
- We are not bound to accept items received later than 14 days after you notify us. We reserve the right to charge a restocking fee of 10% or to return the item to you.
- We will only refund whatever is is agreed to be refunded, when the goods are received by us in perfect condition (or as they were when dispatched in the case of faulty items) and within the period of time stated above.
